I am angry. I have spent the last two weeks arguing and debating the incessant hounding of the Tamil writer Perumal Murugan and banning of his novel - ‘One Part Woman’. I have been defending something I never thought I would have to- freedom of imagination, and in the process realised that almost no one has actually read the book. I have just returned from the Jaipur Literature festival where Perumal Murugan’s name was mentioned all of twice, not because they don’t care, but because he is a regional writer fairly unknown in English literary circles until recently.
